Advance Wars: Dual Strike Nintendo DS
Region: PAL
Date Added: 20 Mar 2022
Summary: In this entry of the long running Wars series you once again command the Allied Nations army against the vile Black Hole. It is a traditional turn-based strategy game.
Choose from a handful of COs (commanding officers), each with his own unique CO power that can change the flow of a battle, and battle it out with seven new units never before seen in the series such as the Stealth bomber and the Megatank. The COs gain experience points for won battles which can be used to improve his battle skills.
Besides the known campaign and multiplayer modes from the predecessors this entry features two new playing modes: Survival (survive as long as possible while participating into one fight after another) and Combat (real-time battles with just one unit per player). The game also utilizes the unique abilities of the Nintendo DS, e.g. fighting multiple battles at once with the dual screen or easy unit commanding and map building with the stylus.

Summary: After Burner is an aircraft shooter that originated in the arcades. The goal is simple: use your F-14 Tomcat and shoot as many enemies as you can. This aircraft has two weapons: lock-on missiles and Vulcan cannons (basically machine guns). In some versions there is an option to let the cannons shoot automatically all the time.
The game is viewed from behind the plane with you fighting wave after wave of enemy fighters. But at heart it offers the usual shooter mechanics, meaning you spend most of your time dodging and shooting. Sometimes you come across a friendly supply plane and if you dock with it you can replenish your missiles.

Summary: Five years ago, Richter Belmont, the latest in the Belmont lineage and the one destined to be a Vampire Hunter, defeated Dracula in a brutal battle which nearly cost him the love of his life, Annette, and her sister, Maria. Now, Richter has suddenly vanished, Dracula's castle has mysteriously reappeared, and Maria, now a young woman, sets off to find Richter. Alucard, the son of Dracula, is awakened from his eternal slumber after this large shift in power, and enters into the castle to find some answers and confront his own father.
Symphony of the Night is a direct sequel to Rondo of Blood. Unlike the previous installments of the series, the game is set in a castle which the player can explore freely with many different paths, although often items in certain areas need to be found that will allow passage to others. The action-based gameplay incorporates now strong RPG elements. The hero receives experience points for defeating enemies, gains levels and becomes more powerful. There is also money to be found in the game, and various accessories to buy. In a separate screen, players need to equip attack weapons, shields and other items. Magic plays an important role, as well as secondary weapons and a large amount of "special moves" that are executed similar to advanced one-on-one fighting games.
The Saturn release adds two new areas to the castle (the Underground Garden and the Haunted Path), a third playable character (Maria), and a few new remixed music tracks. However, it sacrifices a few of the graphical effects from the PlayStation version, particularly true transparencies. All other releases are based on the PlayStation version, and do not feature these changes.

Summary: Alex Kidd, resident of planet Aries, is the king's brother. One day he comes across a rumor that his long lost father, King Thor, is alive and somewhere on the planet Paperock. Of course he immediately travels to said planet to find his father.
Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle offers standard platforming action in which Alex explores side-scrolling levels and has to avoid touching enemies. He has two standard attacks to his disposal: punching enemies on the ground and kicking them in the air. He also uses items to make his life easier, e.g. a pedicopter with a gun, a pogo-stick for reaching higher ground or an invulnerability cloak. After usage Alex puts those items into his inventory but he loses the active item when dying. Coins are acquired from defeated enemies or treasure chests.
Just like in Alex Kidd in Miracle World, the mini game Janken, also known as rock-paper-scissors, plays an important role: bosses are not defeated by shooting but by beating them in this game of chance. New in comparison to the predecessor is that Janken also needs to be played to purchase items in shops: After paying for the item it is only given to Alex if he wins the mini game. The result of failure is death.

Summary: The aliens are invading Earth, and it's up to the "Alien Busters" to wipe them out and destroy their creator. The Busters consist of Karla, Gordon, and Scooter. Each one of them have their own weapons and special attacks.
When you start the game, you can select any one of these characters to play as. There are six missions to complete (eight in the Genesis version) with several stages, and each mission has you blasting aliens all the way to the end, from the streets to the mother ship where you'll meet the mother of all aliens. Unfortunately, blasting these aliens will not be an easy task, as they get tougher in every mission, and are capable of hiding into objects such as plants, postboxes, trashcans, drums, and several others. Each mission has an objective such as rescuing people destroying an UFO.
When you deal with a few aliens, flying heads will appear, which you can shoot to collect life or energy (by the way, life is important to you, since if yours get empty, you're dead). However, rather than using your ordinary weapons, you can use the special attacks that are enough to kill aliens you currently see. These types of attack vary depending on the character you choose at the start of the game. For instance, Gordon summons a U.S. Air Force Jet that drop bombs across the street, while Scooter is able to teleport out of his present location, and leave a series of bombs that will blow up aliens on sight, he will then re-appear. However, using your character's special attack uses up a lot of energy, and if you have little or no energy, you can't use it.
At the end of some missions is an alien boss, which you must destroy in order to complete the mission. Also, at the end of every one, you have to enter buildings where you participate in a shooting gallery. The object is to kill aliens popping up from several locations with the building.
You can play Alien Storm by yourself, or with another person.

Summary: The invasion of an unknown life source is getting worse. Nobody knows if the defensive line or the heart of the enemy base is ruined first. With the people's hope, the most advanced fighter will be dispatched into multi-scrolling space.
Fight your way through seven stages in this horizontal-scrolling game, and defeat a boss at the end of each one. You start the game with four main weapons, which you can switch from with the click of a button. Some of these weapons are more powerful than others. You can also fire off a charged shot if your main weapon level is two or greater, simply by holding down the fire button for about two seconds. Using charged shots can do more damage to an enemy ship. If you happen to die, you will lose one power level from all four weapons. If all your lives are lost and are forced to continue, you will start again with your main weapon on the second power level and all three sub-weapons on the first power level.

Summary: Animal Crossing: New Leaf is a social simulation game. The player takes on the role as the new mayor in a small village populated by animals. Gameplay consists of improving the village with new buildings and decorations, collecting furniture and items for one's house, and donating fossils, fish, insects and art to the local museum.
Several features in the game make their series debut here, while others have been brought back from older Animal Crossing games after having not been seen in the DS or Wii entries. These include public works projects, which allow new landmarks and buildings to be added to the town, as well as altering the appearance of certain major buildings; the Dream Suite, which allows players to visit other towns in a single-player session; a tropical island that hosts minigames and multiplayer interactions; Re-Tail, a store that acts as a flea market and allows the player to customize certain furniture items with alternate color schemes or patterns; and QR code sharing for player-made clothing and patterns.
A free update, titled Animal Crossing: New Leaf - Welcome amiibo, was released in late 2016. This patch added amiibo functionality, including 64 villagers only available through the use of a corresponding card or figure. 50 of these are villagers who had previously only appeared in the GameCube and/or Nintendo 64 installments of the series; the other 14 are tie-in villagers that represent characters from The Legend of Zelda, Splatoon, Monster Hunter, and Hello Kitty. Other features include new items and currency, an RV campground near the outskirts of town, minigames and features from Animal Crossing spin-off titles, and several miscellaneous features intended for the player's convenience.

Region: PAL
Date Added: 16 Apr 2021
Series: Armored Core
Comments: Bought from Dusk
Summary: Armored Core V is an action game in which the player controls a mech, a big combat robot. The story is more of a reboot and has no direct connection to the predecessors. The protagonist gets caught up in a war between two corporations: the faction of "Father", the dictator of Alloy Gate City, and the resistance. The player joins up with the resistance.
The story is divided into ten missions with cutscenes and voice-overs; between them are various story-less order missions open to participate in. However, the core stays always the same: moving forward and blasting a lot of enemy mechs and buildings. This rewards money which is reinvested into mech upgrades - like in all Armored Core games, mech customization is comprehensive and allows to change many details and parts.
The single-player content is interwoven with the multiplayer component: clan fights over a persistent map. Right from the beginning, the player has the option to found a new clan or join an existing one. Then every action, solving single-player missions or participating in co-op/competitive fights with clan mates, earns team points. These are required to challenge another clan for their territory.

Summary: Desmond Miles, the last in the line of the ancient order of Assassins, has been captured by the modern-day descendants of the Templars, forced to experience past events through a device called Animus in order to obtain crucial information. However, one of the scientists unexpectedly switches sides, asking Desmond to put his trust in her hands and follow her out of the complex. Soon afterwards they escape the holding place and team up with some new allies that intend to use Desmond's knowledge against the Templars. Their new device is called Animus 2.0, an upgraded version of the original. This time, Desmond relives the life of Ezio Auditore di Firenze, a man who lived in Italy in the 15th century.
Ezio is a boisterous, seemingly carefree young man who likes to pick fights and chase skirts. But all that changes when his father and little brother are publicly executed by a man he trusted. Driven by vengeance, Ezio begins to discover more about his father's life, and realizes that he, too, belonged to the organization of the Assassins. Ezio becomes a skillful assassin himself, and is ready to go all the way to avenge the death of the people he loved.
Assassin's Creed II is a free-roaming action game very similar in concept and gameplay mechanics to its predecessor. The events of the game take place in Florence, Venice, Rome, and other locations in Italy. Besides fictional characters, the game has famous historical figures from the time period, such as Leonardo da Vinci, Niccolò Machiavelli, Cesare Borgia and others, who play an active role in the game's story. Authentic cultural and political environment of the Italian Renaissance is represented in the game along with fictitious accounts of the events, alternate history, and metaphysical theories.
The core gameplay resembles that of the previous game. The protagonist can freely explore several large cities and rural locations on foot or on horseback. It is also possible to swim and navigate boats in the game. Nearly every building can be climbed on, and the protagonist can access the tallest rooftops, observing the panorama with his Eagle Vision. Free-form jumping and running occupies a considerable portion of the gameplay.
One of the sequel's most notable additions is the financial system, which was not present in the first game. Items, weapons and armor can be bought in shops and repaired for money. There are many more weapon types and individual weapons and armor in the game. Ezio can carry swords, daggers, throwing knives, smoke bombs, a pistol, and a variety of upgradeable armor types. Weapons can also be picked up from fallen enemies and used in the same battle. Abundant treasure can be collected from various spots in the game world.
There are new ways of being stealthy in this sequel. Ezio can pay courtesans to distract guards, hire mercenaries to fight them, or commission thieves to create a distraction. Mission objectives and particularly the steps needed to accomplish them are noticeably more varied than in the previous game. The protagonist often receives new equipment and new challenges to experiment with. A few of these are built like mini-games: for example, at one point Ezio will pilot a flying device. The main character has his own headquarters in the game, a mansion and a small town adjacent to it. It is possible to invest money into the town's reconstruction, as well as customize the mansion.
The game features a significantly larger amount of side quests than its predecessor. A series of sub-quests involves locating, collecting and deciphering ancient words of wisdom that supposedly hold the secret of the universe. These quests often involve traversing complex indoor platform environments in order to reach the goal. These sequences require precise jumping and contain light puzzle-solving elements, similarly to contemporary Prince of Persia games.

Asura's Wrath PlayStation 3
Region: PAL
Date Added: 15 Apr 2021
Series: Asura's Wrath
Comments: Bought from Dusk
Summary: Asura's Wrath is an action game where the player controls the titular Asura. He is one of the eight elite demigods, and their main Guardian General, who leads a legion to fight a race of beasts called Gohma who roam Earth, called Gaea in the game. He serves the emperors who rose as the leaders of Shinkoku Trastrium, a civilization that unified all nations. Demigods derive their power from mantra, a source powered by the emotion of mortals. The civilization however drained the planet of its resources and the Gohma was a natural phenomenon to combat the power of Shinkoku Trastrium. It leads to the War of Creation which neither side can win. Eventually Vlitra is awakened, a Gohma the size of the continent that causes the demigods to erect Karma Fortress, an orbital space station. The game starts when the Gohma attack the space station and specifically a giant laser known as Brahmastra, powered by mantra, that could wipe out all Gohma. Asura's daughter Mithra is chosen by the 128th Emperor Strada to become the main priestess to guide the mortal's prayers to provide mantra, but the appointment is not to Asura's liking. The main story is split up into three parts with 18 episodes in total. These follow the style of an anime series with opening and ending credits, including cut-scenes and a preview of the next part of the story at the end. Next to a hidden ending the game's story is further extended through DLC with a fourth part, lost episodes, and extensions of existing episodes.
Large parts of the game are played as a third-person fighting game with a focus on melee combat. Asura has different attacks that can be chained into combos. Heavy attacks cause him to overheat however and cannot be used continuously. There are dive attacks to engage from the air, dash to break through shields and a quick recovery attack to reduce damage after being hit, along with regular counters and dodging. He also has a ranged cannon that can lock onto enemies and blast opponents and projectiles out of the sky. By inflicting and receiving damage an Unlimited gauge near the top of the screen is filled up. Once full it can be activated for the Unlimited mode for more strength and no overheating. Next to the green health bar there is a red Burst gauge filled up by defeating enemies, inflicting damage, and following on-screen prompts. Once full a powerful attack is unleashed and that one is often needed to finish off the most powerful opponents and advance the plot.
For many parts the game shifts into rail shooter sequences where Asura soars through the skies. In those sequences movement is limited to a fixed axis for the area shown on the screen and the camera rotates automatically. Asura attacks and locks onto multiple targets and needs to evade projectiles Space Harrier style. The game has many cinematic events that require direct input from the player. These appear during gameplay but also during static cinematics or flight sequences. These quick-time events are rated based on accuracy and speed, and even during cinematics missing them can cause Asura to die or lose a significant amount of health.
