Summary: Call of Duty 2 is the next installment in a series of popular 1st-person perspective shooters. The game is trying to recreate the big military operations of World War II (Defence of Stalingrad, invasion in Normandy and German-British war in North Africa).
Developers from Infinity Ward divided Call of Duty 2 into three campaigns (Russian, British and American) and put into the game a lot of new features (e.g. no health indicator, option to complete mission objectives in different order). Expanded multiplayer modes are also available.

Summary: The third main Call of Duty game centers around Operation Cobra in Normandy, France, the World War II operation planned by United States Army General Omar Bradley to break out from the Normandy area after the previous month's D-Day landings. You play as 4 allied sides with American, Canadian, British and Polish soldiers in 14 chronological singleplayer missions covering the 88 days leading up to the liberation of Paris. Surprisingly, you cannot play as the French 2nd Armored Division that actually liberated Paris.
The battles are usually dramatic with many fights and scripted events at the same time, consisting of infantry and vehicles, with semi-destructible environments. In between, there are cinematics that explain the events. A few gameplay mechanics have been kept intact or make a return: slight auto aim, the damage system that allows you to recover if you hide for a moment, and smoke grenades. New features include the ability to toss back unexploded grenades and actions requiring a successful series of button combinations. This can occur in hand-to-hand combat where you can yank the weapon out of enemy soldiers' hands. Enemies work in groups, try different tactics and search for cover.
The main multiplayer modes are standard deathmatch (battle), team deathmatch (team battle), Capture the Flag (either with two flags or two sides trying to control a single, neutral flag) and Headquarters (two sides either defend or attack a structure, and players can now respawn after dying). The new mode, War, is similar to the gameplay of the Battlefield series. Two teams start with two control points each, and one neutral flag in the middle. The objective is to control all five flags.
There are multiple-occupancy vehicles (Sherman Tank, Panzer IV, Jeep, Horch, BMW, Harley), and several multiplayer classes: Rifleman, Heavy Assault, Light Assault, Medic, Scout, Support and Anti-Armor. Each class has unique abilities. There are also two rankings: a normal rank system during a single game where your abilities improve if you do well, and an overall TrueSkill ranking. Also, unlike the previous games, your team stays grouped together after a match and is not booted back to the lobby right away.

Summary: Call of Duty: Black Ops is the seventh edition of the Call of Duty FPS franchise, which is set during the Cold War theater, and casts the player in the role of various special forces soldiers conducting covert top secret operations colloquially known as 'black ops' that which governments maintain deniable knowledge of. As with previous Call of Duty games, the player will switch between different characters engaged in operations around the globe that include Vietnam, Russia, Cuba and Laos. The two primary characters are soldiers Alex Mason and CIA agent Jason Hudson, members of the black ops group known as the Studies and Observations Group (SOG), who have been tasked with investigating and dealing with the Nova-6, an experimental Soviet chemical weapon.
As with its predecessors, Black Ops comes with online and offline multiplayer support that features the usual game modes including Free-for-All, Team Deathmatch and Capture the Flag, during which players will once again earn XP points and gain new ranks. Returning from Treyarch's previous Call of Duty outing, World at War is a zombie co-op mode that allows two players to play together offline and four players online. Players will be able to earn CoD Points, which are awarded as the player earns XP, with CoD Points being awarded at a rate of 1 for every 10XP earned. These can then be put on bets on special 'wager matches', which if won gives the player additional CoD Points and XP.
A new feature in Black Ops is the Create a Class 2.0, which allows players to more extensively customize their multiplayer character, including dog tags, camo patterns, emblem and gun sight reticules. Also included for the first time to a CoD game is the ability to pilot aircraft which comes in the form of the Hind helicopter gunship and the SR-71 Blackbird stealth plane.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Xbox 360

Series: Call of Duty
Comments: Bundled with Xbox 360 S
Summary: The eighth main entry into the Call of Duty series, and the third in the Modern Warfare sub series, Modern Warfare 3 is a direct sequel to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. In this first-person shooter the story picks up at the end of the previous game as Russia's invasion into the United States continues, but the war has now engulfed Europe, with Great Britain, France and Germany participating, allied to the US. The player once again takes on the role of various characters throughout the campaign, including 'Soap' Mctavish from the previous game, as well as several new ones, including Frost and Sandman, members of the US Delta Force.
Next to the main story campaign with its scripted gameplay, MW3 features two cooperative game modes. The first is Spec Ops, making a return from the previous game. It has the players perform brief missions and a star is awarded based on the performance. The second is the new Survival Mode, where players fight off different waves of enemy soldiers which get progressively harder.
The multiplayer portion comes with the usual game modes (Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, ...). In addition to these, several new game modes have been included. The first is called Kill Confirmed and requires the player to retrieve the dog tags of defeated enemies for the kill to register. The opposing team can also retrieve it to deny the player's kill. Another one, Team Defender, involves teams capturing a single flag on the map and keeping it for as long as possible to score the most points. There are also several pre-made modes for private matches, such as Infection (kill enemies to recruit them), Drop Zone (hold a zone for points and care packages), Team Juggernaut (each team has an AI Juggernaut character), and Gun Game (every player only has a pistol and three bullets, and earns extra guns and bullets by getting kills).
The Killstreak reward system from the previous games for multiplayer has been scrapped in favour of the new Pointstreak system. Points are earned by completing additional challenges, next to just raking in kills. The rewards are organized in three strike packages: Assault, Support, and Specialist, each with new options and perks as they are unlocked.
Along with this game the Call of Duty: Elite service is introduced, a service that tracks player statistics and has social networking and smartphone integration. It is free, but subscribers who pay a monthly fee receive DLC, and can participate in competitions to win prizes. It also integrates with the earlier Call of Duty: Black Ops.

Summary: Guide a team of up to six soldiers through 72 levels of combat in this top-down action/strategy hybrid, best thought of as Lemmings crossed with Commando crossed with Dune 2. The characters are controlled indirectly using the mouse, as you activate each soldier or group of them by highlighting them, click the left button to move them to a particular spot, and the right button for them to fire guns at an enemy. You can also pick up grenades or rockets, which can be used to destroy groups of enemies, buildings or some vehicles (by pressing both buttons at once).
Each mission has a specific objective, and some feature vehicles such as tanks that used make things easier. Your troops can cross water but can't shoot within it, so finding and controlling bridges is often crucial. You can use the arrangement of trees to find hiding places to shoot from, and should watch out for CPU soldiers also doing so.

Castle of Illusion starring Mickey Mouse Sega Master System
Price: £29.99
Region: PAL
Date Added: 8 Feb 2016
Summary: Sega's 8-bit systems received their own version of the Genesis' Disney platformer. The story and main theme remain the same, but the game has its own unique levels and slightly different gameplay mechanics.
To save his girlfriend Minnie from the wicked witch Mizrabel, Mickey must venture into the Castle of Illusion. Crossing six levels (including a magical forest, a toy land and a candy world), he must collect the gems of the rainbow in order to confront and defeat the witch.
Each level features unique obstacles, enemies and a final boss. The enemies can be defeated by jumping on top of them. An alternative way is to pick up objects lying around (like rocks in the forest or blue balls in the toy level) and throwing them at the enemies. Mickey's ability to pick up things and carry them around also leads to some sort of puzzle-oriented gameplay. By placing objects in the right spot and jumping off of them, he can get to areas that are otherwise out of reach. In some levels, he also has to collect keys to open doors. A unique type of object is the treasure chest - by jumping on top of one or throwing it, Mickey gets access to its contents, which might include extra lives, a health power-up or coins to collect for points.

Summary: The plot of Castlevania Chronicles is similar to that of the first Castlevania: in the end of the 17th century the dreadful vampire Dracula is resurrected after a century of slumber. The people in Transylvania flee in horror, but the brave Simon Belmont takes his Vampire Killer whip and ventures into the ominous castle to put an end to the Lord of Darkness.
The similarities to the first installment of the series are also evident in the game's overall structure and basic gameplay, as well as in level design and usable items. Most of the weapons and items from the first game return, with more rare and hidden items making an appearance. Familiar stages have been re-designed, and many new stages are introduced as well.
The PlayStation version includes a new rendered intro and ending, enhanced music and graphic effects, as well as an easier difficulty level ("Arrange Mode"). The original difficulty level from the Sharp X68000 release is present as well ("Original Mode").

Summary: Set one year after Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow, the first Castlevania game for the DS has you playing Soma Cruz again. While attempting to return to a normal life Soma is attacked by the leader of a cult with the intention of reviving Count Dracula. He, as well as friends from his last adventure, are drawn to the cult's headquarters to prevent another age of darkness.
All the action takes place on the lower screen, while the top screen is used to see the map or your character's stats. Soma can still equip various kinds of weapons, armor, and monster souls, although the exact powers of the souls have changed slightly from the previous game. Instead of multiples of the same soul just taking up space they are now necessary, as many abilities will not reach their full power unless Soma possesses nine duplicates of the soul. Yoko Belnades has set up an enchanting store inside the castle, allowing Soma to merge souls with weapons in his possession to forge more powerful weapons. The game also takes advantage of the touch screen feature to let you draw magic runes to perform powerful moves to defeat evil monsters.
For the first time in a Castlevania game simultaneous multiplayer modes are possible. Place monsters in a series of rooms and then blaze through it with a friend over wireless connection, either competitively or cooperatively. Trading extra souls between carts is also possible over wireless communication.
The mobile version is a fairly genuine port of the original game with a few minor differences. It adds a new special rare item: the lost soul vial. This item can be used if Soma dies and resurrects him. There is also the bat altar which can be used when Soma owns the bat form ability. Soma walks on a bat altar with the bat ability and is teleported to the linked bat altar. The inventory is strictly limited to weapons, armors and magic spells. It is not possible to store food, life potions or other items.

Summary: Five years ago, Richter Belmont, the latest in the Belmont lineage and the one destined to be a Vampire Hunter, defeated Dracula in a brutal battle which nearly cost him the love of his life, Annette, and her sister, Maria. Now, Richter has suddenly vanished, Dracula's castle has mysteriously reappeared, and Maria, now a young woman, sets off to find Richter. Alucard, the son of Dracula, is awakened from his eternal slumber after this large shift in power, and enters into the castle to find some answers and confront his own father.
Symphony of the Night is a direct sequel to Rondo of Blood. Unlike the previous installments of the series, the game is set in a castle which the player can explore freely with many different paths, although often items in certain areas need to be found that will allow passage to others. The action-based gameplay incorporates now strong RPG elements. The hero receives experience points for defeating enemies, gains levels and becomes more powerful. There is also money to be found in the game, and various accessories to buy. In a separate screen, players need to equip attack weapons, shields and other items. Magic plays an important role, as well as secondary weapons and a large amount of "special moves" that are executed similar to advanced one-on-one fighting games.
The Saturn release adds two new areas to the castle (the Underground Garden and the Haunted Path), a third playable character (Maria), and a few new remixed music tracks. However, it sacrifices a few of the graphical effects from the PlayStation version, particularly true transparencies. All other releases are based on the PlayStation version, and do not feature these changes.

Summary: A time traveler from the future was stranded in Victorian England, and his knowledge of yet unknown technological inventions was passed to the Royal Society, headed by Baron Fortesque. With the help of this knowledge, Fortesque managed to construct an immensely complex artificial intelligence known as the Chaos Engine. However, creation rebelled against its creator, assimilated its mind, and turned Britain into a war zone populated by mad machines. Mercenaries are willing to enter this dangerous place and put an end to the chaos, hoping for an appropriate reward.
Chaos Engine (Soldiers of Fortune in the US) is a run-and-gun overhead shooter. Sixteen levels (in four groups of four) await the players in the game. The basic gameplay is similar to Gauntlet, but in an open air setting, with bridges across rivers and other features in the maps. The visuals are in the 'metallic and blue' style Bitmap Brothers appeared to favor.
There are six characters available in the game, each with different strengths and weaknesses, and different starting prices. In two-player mode each player chooses a character and plays co-operatively, but in one-player games the player also chooses a character for the computer to control, with its artificial intelligence allowing it to open doors, pick up power-ups and take on enemies away from the ones occupying the player-controlled character.

Christmas NiGHTS into Dreams...'s title screen, level backgrounds and even character models change according to the current season. Santa will appear on his sleigh on Christmas Day, and Reala will make a guest appearance on April Fool's Day, to mention only a few of its little cameos.
The gameplay is identical to that of NiGHTS into Dreams..., but it arguably has more longevity due to the Presents Box. The box contains unlockable artwork, promotional movies, Time Attack and Link Attack modes, Sonic as a playable character in the game, and more!

Summary: A young man named Crono is about to enjoy a carefree day: he plans to go to the Millennial Fair, where his friend Lucca intends to demonstrate her newest scientific invention: a teleporter. Upon his arrival Crono meets a young girl named Marle, who volunteers to be the first to test Lucca's new device. However, Marle's pendant affects the teleporter's mechanism in a mysterious way, and as a result she is teleported four hundred years into the past. Crono and Lucca quickly recreate the time portal and follow Marle. They find out that her unexpected appearance has created some confusion, and proceed to fix the error, which in turn leads to unforeseen consequences, eventually compelling the heroes to travel to different time periods and change the history of the world.
Chrono Trigger is a Japanese-style role-playing game in which the player takes control of a party consisting of up to seven characters, developing the combat skills of its members and managing their equipment. There are no random encounters in the game: all the enemies are either visibly walking on the field maps and can be avoided by the player, or are waiting to ambush the party. No enemy encounters occur when the player navigates characters over the world map.
The game utilizes the ATB (active time battle) combat system from Final Fantasy games as one of the combat style selections offered to the player in the beginning. The other selectable battle mechanic pauses combat whenever the player accesses the menu, effectively removing the real-time element and rendering the battles fully turn-based.
As the characters grow in power, their parameters increase, and they learn new "techs" - special powerful attacks and maneuvers which cost them magic points to use in battle. Techs may target a specific formation of enemies (e.g. a line) and can be used tactically depending on the enemies' positioning in combat. Characters may execute techs individually or perform double or triple techs, where each character contributes a tech which is combined with one or two others to unleash a powerful attack.
Once player-controlled characters acquire the ability to travel freely between time periods, the game's plot develops in a non-linear fashion. From that point on the player may opt to face the game's final adversary in combat and complete the story, or perform other plot-related quests. Depending on the moment of the story when the player decides to proceed to the final battle, the game may be concluded with thirteen different endings. The New Game+ option allows the player to start the game anew after having previously completed it, carrying over levels, techs, and equipment of the characters.
The PlayStation version features an anime-style introduction movie and cutscenes, a "movie theater" mode which allows the player to re-watch these movies and listen to the game's songs, as well as an unlockable bestiary, dungeon maps, and art gallery. The Nintendo DS version retains these changes and adds two new dungeons and a new possible ending that foreshadows the events of Chrono Cross.

Summary: Sketch Turner was a starving comic book artist, living with his pet rat Roadkill... that is until a lightning storm mysteriously brought his cartoon villain, Mortus, to life and imprisoned Sketch within the pages of his own comic book. Now trapped in the world that he himself created, but someone else is now drawing, Sketch must battle through the pages of his own comic book, and past his own creations, to a final battle with Mortus. Perhaps one of his own creations, General Alissa Cyan might be able to help...
Comix Zone is a side-scrolling fighting game with a difference, you're inside of a comic book and you yourself know it. Smash enemies into the sides of frames, rip through the paper to unleash a super move and otherwise wreck havoc throughout the limitations of the graphic novel. Sketch himself can jump, attack and use various items that he finds along the comic book, including his rat friend, Roadkill. Button combinations can be used to unleash powerful techniques.
The game progresses linearly through each page of the comic book, however secret paths and alternate routes through the story can be discovered. At the end of each level, Sketch receives a super hero rating for how well he's progressing.

Summary: A new chapter in the Command & Conquer universe, set somewhere in the 2020s, pits three sides for global domination: the United States of America, the People's Republic of China and the Global Liberation Army (GLA).
Generals features real world (renamed or slightly altered) weapons combined with quasi-high-tech ones, new control schemes and a fast-paced multiplayer. Generals is the first game in the Command & Conquer series not to include FMV or pre-rendered cutscenes between missions, and was also the first C&C game without the Westwood Studios label (although the development studio was initially called Westwood Pacific before being merged into EA Pacific). It uses a full 3D environment powered by the SAGE engine, a modified version of the W3D engine previously seen in C

Series: Command & Conquer
Summary: Like the original, Red Alert 2 pits the Russians against the Allies, but this time it's on American soil. A post-World War II invasion by Romanov and Yuri, aided by a Psychic Beam for brainwashing US citizens, must be repelled.
Lead 9 different nations in this all-out war for survival. Each side has ground troops, tanks, aeroplanes and sea units, although there are differences between the sides in which units can attack which others, largely based on real life equipment (for example, the US' AEGIS cruisers can only attack air units, but can beat almost any). Lots of fictitious technology is also featured, including new weather control devices and deadly animals.
Gameplay is fundamentally the same as other Real-Time strategy games - harvest resources to fund an army, then move the units around to win battles against your foes. Each side has 13 missions, some with specific objectives or unit limitations.

Summary: While the Allies and the Soviets were fighting each other in Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2, Yuri (the psychic adviser to the Soviet Premier) was secretly building his own army of clones and mutations. Once the war ended, Yuri launched his own attempt to take over the Earth with a series of psychic dominators designed to turn the world's population into his puppets. The only chance to stop him lies in using Einstein's chronotechnology to travel back in time and destroy the dominators before they can come on line.
There are two single player campaigns in Command & Conquer: Yuri's Revenge, one for the Allies and one for the Soviets. Both are seven missions long and pit the player against Yuri's monstrous forces. In addition, each army gets five new units/buildings to aid their war efforts. For the Allies, there's anti-tank guardian infantry, Navy Seals, and robot tanks. The Soviets gain siege helicopters, battle bunkers, and "Boris" the Russian equivalent of Tanya. Also, the entire cast of Red Alert 2 returns to reprise their roles in the campaign cinematics.
Although there is no single player campaign for Yuri, his army becomes available as a third side in the multiplayer game with 13 new units and 11 new buildings. Combat forces include mutated brutes, Yuri clones, boomer submarines, and UFO like floating discs. Bases are built around bio-reactors and grinders (which shred captured units and refund cash) and defended with mind-control towers and gattling turrets. Yuri's strength leans heavily on his abilities to take over enemy troops with psychic units like the "master mind", a vehicle that can brainwash nearby enemies and turn them against their owner.

Date Added: 1 May 2020
Summary: Constructor gives the player the chance to run a construction company in a place where real estate is up for those who want to develop it first and where everything is allowed to get rid of the competition.
Starting in a single plot of land with the headquarters, a construction team (composed by a foreman and one to five workers) and a repairman, the player must start by building a wood mill and provide housing to the bottom of the social ladder: slobs. From there, taking advantage of their fast reproduction rate, the player can train new workers, and as soon as three different wooden huts are available, the council will allow the construction of a cement yard, which in turn allow the construction of better buildings. However, slobs wouldn't appreciate living in such luxury, and so a gadget factory can be built so that computers are distributed to their houses, allowing for a new generation of better educated citizens. While the workers pack a nasty punch when in a large group, violence should be left to the professionals. After building a Pizza Parlor, the player is allowed to use the services of gangsters. These are able to take on that pesky foreman or that building the Council asked to get rid off.
But there's more to the game than build from ghetto houses to luxury buildings, and as they say, all is fair in war, and construction IS war. The player can send his foremen to capture other teams' buildings, or do even worse: provide housing for the scum of society. From hippies to ghosts, these can do a number on the other teams' properties. Want to stress out a tenant? Send the thugs to do a wild party in their house. Need some cash or materials? Send the thief to relieve a team from them. All this while avoiding the others do the same on you by assigning police patrol to key areas. As time passes, it pays out to build other, more friendly, buildings. A school allows everyone to breed more civilized members of the society, the hospital allows recovery of wounds much faster or the park, where everyone goes to relax a little, among others. Improving the rooms and giving them garden furniture is also a good way of keeping tenants happy, but jealously can grow among neighbors. Failing to comply to tenants requests and demands will quickly turn the Council against the player.
The player will have to balance the output of their tenants to achieve success: overdoing one of the elements will take a dent on the bank account (leading to bankruptcy), cut the arrival of new workers (putting a strain of existing teams), replacement for deceased tenants (leaving houses vacant that eventually decay into a flaming pile of rubble not before giant cockroaches settle in) or police and mob favors (to patrol areas against undesirables and gangster actions).
The difficulty level affect what maps can be selected, but also which actions the undesirables can perform. To choose higher difficulty settings, more computer players (up to three) must be activated.

Crazy Taxi Dreamcast
Region: NTSC-J
Date Added: 20 Mar 2022
Summary: Crazy Taxi is an arcade-like racer where the player takes the role of a taxi driver who weaves his way through crowded streets, across sidewalks, and even underwater, in a wild and frantic race to deliver passengers on time. The courses are largely set inside cities crowded with general traffic and pedestrians (which can't be run over, they dive away). The main goal is to bring as many customers as possible to their destination in time. Available customers are marked through circles and the color represents the distance and the fare they offer. Green means long rides with plenty of money, and red ones are very short.
In the main Arcade mode, there is a timer that quickly runs down. It can be replenished by picking up customers. While driving reckless maneuvers are encouraged. Players can disregard all traffic rules and customers give extra tips for speedy and dangerous driving, but these can only be cashed when the customer arrives at his destination in time. By the same token, the reward at the end of a ride is based on the amount of time left, as each customer also has a personal timer. The city is filled with slopes and jumps, and the game uses a very loose driving model. No damage can be done to the car, so driving as fast as possible is encouraged. While driving players can toy with the gears to perform two special tricks: a crazy drift and a crazy boost to speed up more quickly.
Next to the Arcade mode, there is an Original mode and Crazy Box where specific goals need to be met on closed-down courses. In the regular modes, it is possible to disregard the usual timer and play for a fixed amount of minutes. At the end of the race, the player is rewarded with a license, either D, C, B, or A, with S for outstanding performance. Next to the interactive courses from the arcade version, there is a new course for home consoles. There are four cabs and drivers to choose from. The cars have different statistics and the drivers' different attitudes while racing. The game has a soundtrack featuring The Offspring and Bad Religion (not for the Xbox 360 version).
